Second, day words.

Normal conversation in Turkish

Today, I will post some normal and general conversation in Turkish.

First, let's ask something.


*What is this/it? : Bu ne?
*This/it is a book : Bu bir kitap (Turkish doesn't have any article like English.)
*Where are you going? : Nereye gidiyorsun?
*I'm going to go to a school. : Ben okula gidiyorum.
*How old are you ? : Kac yasindasiniz?
*I'm ...... years old : Ben ..... yasindayum.
*What did you say?/Pardon? : Ne?
*Yes : evet! / Tamam.
*No : Hayir
*You're welcome! : Rica ederim
*I don't know :Ben bilmiyorum.
*Hello? (On the phone) : Bakar misiniz?


If you learn these expressions, it gonna be easy and funny to talk with Turkish :)

Attraction in Istanbul

Good Afternoon :)


Istanbul has a great harmony between Aisa and Europe. It is a cultural melting pot. The east side of Istanbul, there is black sea and the west side of Istanbul, you can see Mediterranean sea. The common weather of Istanbul is not too hot and humid.
The sun is very strong but you don't be annoyed by the weather. Although the hot weather, you can feel the best fresh air from the Mediterranean sea.

The most famous attraction in Istanbul is Hagia Sophia. In English, Sophia church . In every single moive or drama , the back ground image of Turkey is Hagia Shphia from Istanbul.

Ayasofya is the other church in Istanbul. Historically, there are lots of religious and cultural structures and architectures.

Attraction in Turkey

Merhaba,

For several posts, I will introduce some famous places in Turkey.

I've been Turkey, and it was amazing experience. Still I had problems with communication, but speaking skill is not only communication way. Using body language is the best way to express your opinion in abroad.
I stayed in Ankara which is th capital of Turkey. Ankara is a good place too, but if you want to visit Turkey once in a lifetime, you should go to Istanbul :)

In Istanbul, you can taste the world best food, the greatest spots, and attractions, and culture too :)
For next post, I will introduce one pace by one place slowly.

Counting Number in Turkish

Today, I will post Number in Turkish.

One : Bir (beer)
Two : iki(ee-kee)
Three : us (ewch)
Four : dort (durrt)
Five : bes (behsh)
Six : alit (ahi-tuh)
Seven :  yedi (veh-dee)
Eight : sekiz (she-keez)
Nine : dokuz (doh-kooz)
Ten : on (ohn)

So, Let's keep making word using these words.

Eleven : on bir (on beer)
Twelve : on iki (on ee-kee)

When you combine words together, you can make any number vocabulary :)

Today, I will tell you some of Turkish idiom. Some of them were already posted before, but It is really useful for speaking and also when you go to Turkey, It's not hard to use in various situations.

*Help yourself : Afiyet olsun!
*It was really delicous (After meals) : Eline saglik!
*Take care yourself : Yolun acik olsun !
*Nice job, Good job : Aferin !
* It's okay : Canin sag degil!
*Good bye or bless you! : Gule Gule!
*Good luck : Rasgele!

Today, let's take a look for useful expression when you go to Turkey for a trip
First, in a hotel.
*Is there any rooms for staying? : Herhangi bir oda var?
*How much ? : Ne kadar?

Second , when you buy something.
*Can u discount for this ? : Indirim lutfen?
*Ok, okay, got it : Tamam.
*Sorry? or Excuse me? : Ne ? , Pardon

Lastly, say Thank you!
*Thanks: Tesekkur ederim
*See you later : Gurusuruz!

Useful Turkish 1

Merhaba ~! 
Today, I will tell you some useful words in Turkish.

If you go to the restaurant, you  might say some good word for food.
Then, you can say these things.

*Thank you : Tesekkur ederim
*guzel : good, excellent, great
*cok : very, really
*How much..? : Ne kadar ?

These are useful expression for travelling in Turkey too.
'Cok guzel' is very nice expression and being used various way.
It means very good, but depends on situations, you can use this word for strong meaning.
It can be used for food, and also for women, it means very pretty or very beautiful.
Tesekkur ederim means Thank you, you can just simply say Tesekkur!.

One more thing,
I went to eat Kebab (Turkish food) today, by accidentilly, at Seoul amusement park.
Here is the picture :)  the food was awesome, and I had some conversation with cooks who are Turkish lol. It was quite interesting, because there were very few Turkish in Korea.

Today, let's learn more about basic Turkish. I'd like to say for today we can study basic things together for the last time, from next posts, I hope we will figure out more higher vocabulary and sentences structures.  

First, let's take a look for answers in Turkish.

*Yes : Evet ; simply say evat in English version pronounciation.
*No : hayir ; ha-yar in English version pronounciation.

Then, how can we ask some short and easy questions?

*Excuse me : Afedersiniz ; a-fe-der-sinaz in English. It is commonly used :)
*Please : lutfen ; loot-fun
*What/huh : ne ?
*Who : kim (sen) ?
*Where : nerede ?

Another important saying.
*I don't know / I don't understand : anlamadim

For these simply and concise sentences, we can communicate with Turkish people !

Basic Turkish Conversation 2

Hello! Sen nasilsin ?


For today, let's me tell you how to say 'where are you from ?'
Before to start, one thing pretty important to know, in Turkish you do not say 'I or you'
in front of the sentence. What I'm trying to say is this.
When you say where are you from  in English, you say ' I am from ...... '
But, as I know, Turkish like omitting. So you don't need to say I ... here, just you can say,
' Korean' or 'American'. Not necessary to say I am Korean. just  'Korean'
It is simple and easy !

Where are you from in Turkish is 
 *(Sen) Nerelisiniz?  -> Here Sen is 'you' in English. You can omit.

The answer is  (if you are Korean)

*(Ben) ... Koreliyim -> Ben means 'I am'

Here are some tips for nationalities.

American : Amerikan : almost same :)
Canadian : Kanadali 
Turkish : Turk

and more.

Lastly, put 'yim' ending of the sentence. It means  'am' . Quite different from English.
But you have to put some ending word in Turkish. Those are several be-verd and verb forms.

Basic Turkish converstion 1

Merhaba!


Today I will post some basic conversation in Turkish. When you meet new people, you may introduce yourself first.


*Nice to meet you / Glad to meet you  : Memnun oldum
*What's you name : Sen adiniz ne?
*My name is.. : Ben adim ......
*I'm : Ben ........


These are easy and quite polite expression in Turkish.

When you do not understand what they are saying, you can say like this.


*Can you speak slowly please? : lutfen yavas konusun


It is also polite expression too.  So, let's practice together. :)

Turkish Muzik

Iyi aksamlar!


Today, I will introduce Turkish music.
First,  Look at today's title. Muzik is music in Turkish, letter u, should be with dots.
Anyways, I have one question.
What kinds of music do you like and usually listen to ?
Well, in my case, I love pop, hip-hop, R&B, and more. Personally, I use music for my studying.
Since I came back to Korea, I've listening only pop music, sometimes, spanish version too.
Music is a good tool for learing languages.

So, today I will recomment one Turkish musician for you. 
Obviously, she is Turkish, her name is Sertab Erener. She is not a top star grobally, but I think, her music is pretty comfortable to listen and there is clear and accurate pronunciation too. Among her songs, my favorite song is called Rüya.
Rüya means dream in English. This song is not a recent one, but I love its melody and lyrics.
Also, most of her songs are translated to English, so it is easy to understand.

What I want to say is even you do not have any knowledge about some language, you can enjoy music.
Turkish music is one of the major motivation for me to study and learn Turkish.
I hope somebody who is interested in Turkish can enjoy their music too. Their style is not too luxurious or sophisticated but it is worth to enjoy it !

Basic information about Trukey - 2

Hi!
Today, Let's talk about the biggest city in Turkey, as I mentioned, this is Istanbul.


Well, first I wanna inform one thing. I don't talk about just boring information about Turkey which you can find from internet with one clicking. Here, I'm posting based on my personal experience and view.


Istanbul is very different from the other city which are located in Turkey. It is main and the biggest city in Turkey, It was the captital in the past, but because of the location, capital changed to Ankara. Virtually, Turkish people believe Muslim, some of rules are very strict and conservative. In Ankara, I saw lots of women wear hijab. There are various kinds of style clothings which make women to cover their body from strangers in Musilm culture. However, I've seldom seen those kinds of women in Istanbul especaially who are young. I knew older people are quite conservative about their religoin still, but young people really do not care about that.
Also, It depend on their family's atmosphere.


The history of Istanbul is very long. I think al least everyone watch movies about old Roman empire or ancient the Ottoman empire. Turkish people are very proud of their long , stunning history. I majored in history, but I couldn't have any opportunities to learn about history of Turkey. 


There is a surprising news for learing history of Turkey. The exhibition which is about the progress of civilization is holding now. The period is from May 1st to September 2nd. It is about  the Empires of Istanbul. It sounds very intriguing, I will visit soon. If anyone, who is interested in this exhibition, let's go together !

Basic information about Trukey - 1

Good afternoon.


What do you know about Turkey?
Kebab? or just huge country? Well, at first I had very small knowledge about Turkey. Many years ago,
I met one man in Canada who was from Turkey. He looked really exotic for me, so I asked some questions.
When he said he was from Turkey, I asked again. 'Wow, do you speak Trukish?'
God! He looked so disappointed at me.. I didn't know that Turkish was even existed.
I was stupid :(


Anyways, for several weeks, I'm going to give some basic information about country, Turkey. As I mentioned before, I love Turkey, Turkish people, their food and culture.

Here is the first question. Where is the capital city of Turkey?
I assume.. most of people think, Istanbul. I asked over 10 friends, and they answered like this.
The capital of Turkey is Ankara. It used to be Angora. Have you ever heard about Angora cat ?
Actually, Angora catsis from Turkey long times ago. Now, they are well- known for French cats but their actual origin is Turkish.

Ankara is located at the middle of Tureky, this reason made Ankara capital.
Easten of Turkey, there is Bulgaira located, this part belongs to Europe. However, westen part is located in meddle Asia. The funny thing is Turkey joins European soccer matches, but geographically, Turkey is Asian country.

Basic pronunciation for Turkish 2

Merhaba :)


Today, as I promised before, it is time for consonant  !
Turkish has 21 consonants. Different from voewls, consonants are easy to pronunce.
You put 'ae' sound after one letter. Let's see the example.
b sounds bae. b + ae sounds bae. f sounds what? fae, right?


There are some excpetion for here. c sounds not like cae. It sounds jae. Don't emphasize j sound here.
It sounds quite similiar to j but, little bit different.
Next, G with accent we call yumusak ğ .Basically, it doesn't sound that much. So, when you see the ğ with little point on it, you don't necessary pronunce it !


Is it hard ? Well, pronunciation is very tricky but funny! Some words are hard to pronounce perfectly :) Don't be frustrated !

Basic pronunciation for Turkish 1

In Turkish, there are 29 alphabets. Among these, 26 alphabets are same as English except Q, W, and X. These three words are not existing in Turkish.
But , there are new 6 alphabet in Trukish, which are ç, ğ, ö, ı, ş, ü.


Vowels are these : a, e ,i, ı, o, ö, u, and ü


You can pronounce using these vowels.


a sounds, ah in Enlgish. e sounds ae, i sounds eae, ı sounds eii , o sounds o same as English, u sounds woo, ü sounds wo and o sound mixed.
It's almost same sound with German umlaut.


These look little bit difficult, but when you practice few times, it's gonna be funny!

Hi,
Today I'm going to talk about greeting in Turkish. First, like English, Turkish has different greeting styles for time. Generally hello or hi is merhaba.
Pronounce like ma-ha-ba.

Next, good morning in Turkish is günaydın. Pronounce like gu-nai-deen

Good afternoon is iyi akşamlar.
Pronounce like e-ack-ssam-mar

Last, good night is iyi geceler.
E-ge-jae-lar is pronunciation for this.


These are quite specific but when you say hello is generally good for greeting.

It is going to be very funny!

This word already has been posted on my blog title.
Masal means story or tale. So my blog title is 'Christine's story' in English!

Making plans

Let's think about my plan for my blog.
This is the first time to have bolg for me, so I'm very excited :) and also worried as well.


First, I really want to post about Turkish.
Language is one of the most basic and important thing in every country.
I'm not fluent so far, but I can understand, speak, read and write.
When you learn new language, it is not easy to start. Well, but if you have little attention, will, and passion, you can learn without stress. That's how I learned some new languages.
